Nameless and Faceless Accusers of Christina Gallagher, Fr McGinnity
and Our Lady Queen of Peace House of Prayer Achill The following quotations have been taken from the ongoing disgraceful and libellous articles against the work of Our Lady Queen of Peace House of Prayer Achill, in the Irish tabloid media. The allegations are anonymous, so therefore it is easy to make the most ludicrous statements without having to stand by or provide your statement. We would like to address the following extracts; Extract from January 6th 2008 “Gallagher’s disciples are asked to sell their own homes to fund the House of Prayer” We, the pilgrims are not disciples of Christina Gallagher, we are disciples of Jesus Christ since our baptism into the Catholic Church. Never has Christina Gallagher asked or encouraged anybody to sell their home to fund the House of Prayer Achill. This is a total falsity. Extract from January 6th 2008 “Most of our sources did not want to be named for fear of being abused for crossing the visionary” This statement offers a very unjust and misleading insinuation that people would be punished for speaking up. Over the course of this media onslaught, Christina Gallagher, while leading the Rosary in the House of Prayer Achill on many occasions offered prayers for those who were involved in this vendetta against her, describing how “God loves them too”. Christina has also stated that she forgives all those who have lied and sought to defame her and her family. Extract from January 6th 2008 “Volunteers were told if they owned their own homes, to sell them and give the money to the House of Prayer” All volunteers and staff at Our Lady Queen of Peace, House of Prayer Achill have rejected this allegation completely making it clear that never have the staff or management of the House of Prayer Achill ever made such approaches to any volunteer. Extract from January 20th 2008 “They have always fawned over people with money, while treating some of their loyal staff like dirt, it’s a cult” As people who travel and support Our Lady Queen of Peace House of Prayer Achill, we can categorically state that all people who come to Our Lady’s House of Prayer Achill are treated similarly, with respect and dignity by Christina Gallagher, Fr Mc Ginnity, and by the staff and volunteers. Likewise, all present staff and volunteers take great offence at the above statement, for which there is no basis in fact. Everybody is very much aware of how Christina Gallagher has exceptional time for people from communities and groups that are less accepted in society. For instance, Christina Gallagher has gone out of her way to welcome members of the travelling community, even, on occasion, putting them before foreign ambassadors, and people of rank. Extract from January 20th 2008 “One young man told the tabloid paper how his depressed mother, who is on social welfare had handed over 5000 euro to the House of Prayer Achill, including a 2000 euro loan from the credit union while there was no food in the house for him and his sisters” This ridiculous and false statement appeared on January 20th 2008, shortly after the most recent campaign attacking the House of Prayer Achill began, when such lengths of deceptions were noticed from the beginning, we should hardly be surprised at the lengths our detractors have gone to since. We have questioned the people involved in the House of Prayer Achill who informed us after checking the records, that no such donation was ever received. This deception aimed at inciting public disgust and emotion was pure fiction! Total lies! From January 27th 2008 The tabloid paper stated they “were bombarded with calls and emails after we revealed that the …” Surely, if this were true, the tabloid in question should be able to provide a record of same, which would include the date. This type of self-gratification is typical of the reporter concerned. Typically, no examples, no names nor identity were provided. Extract from January 27th 2008 “People are told if they donate to the House of Prayer Achill they will have eternal salvation, but those who abandon or betray Christina Gallagher will suffer eternal damnation” This allegation, made on the 27th Jan 2008 again has no names nor has the claim any basis in truth. People who travel regularly to the House of Prayer Achill and who are not afraid to give their names can testify that this tabloid statement is just lies and deception. Such a total untruth seems designed deliberately to damage the reputation of Our Blessed Mother’s House and Christina Gallagher. Extract from January 27th 2008 “Staff threatened to ban coach operators who took wealthy Americans to rival Knock” This is another totally untrue statement! Again, like all the other scurrilous allegations, this too is from anonymous or non existent sources. Knock Shrine has never been a rival to Our Lady Queen of Peace, House of Prayer in Achill. Christina Gallagher and staff at Our Lady’s House have never suggested people would not go to Knock. In fact, a lot of the present coach leaders and pilgrims who travel to Achill often visit Knock Shrine on their pilgrimage to the House of Prayer Achill. Extract from January 27th 2008 “Promised pilgrims reduced time in Purgatory in return for funding her cause” This comment was never made by Christina Gallagher nor by anyone associated with her work. It is another false statement aimed at discrediting and destroying the reputation of this mission. Extract from February 3rd 2008 “The Church pays tribute to tabloid paper on House of Prayer” an alleged statement by an unnamed priest has him quoted as saying that threats of legal action would be handed down to those who questioned the House of Prayer. “Its classic cult behaviour” Another unnamed Co. Mayo priest is quoted as saying that ‘a lot of priests who used to work in that area are glad that all this is exposed.’ And as saying: ‘Where does Christina Gallagher go to Mass herself, they can’t say Mass at the House of Prayer and I know she didn’t go to the parishes where she used to live around Newport or Castlebar. Does she even go?’ The above outrageous statement again has no name or names, despite being the most serious of allegations. Did a priest make it at all? Many priests visit and support Our Lady Queen of Peace, House of Prayer Achill and they, with the hundreds of pilgrims can validate that all that occurs at Our Lady’s House are the traditional prayers of the Catholic Church. There is certainly no behaviour that in any way links to this comment. Where Christina Gallagher goes to Mass, which of course she does, is not the business of any priest, even if the reported comment is real. The alleged priest appears to spend all his time going from church to church to see if she is present. Christina Gallagher has always promoted the importance of Holy Mass and of going there in a state worthy to receive Holy Communion. Christina Gallagher’s spiritual director Fr Gerard McGinnity has stressed that he can verify her fulfilment of her Catholic obligations in every respect. Extract from February 3rd 2008 “One Midlands man told us that Gallagher has destroyed his family” This is the sort of pathetic unfounded allegation on which so many of the articles are based. Again there is nobody one could imagine who has actually made this statement. Who is this man? In what way did the House of Prayer Achill destroy his family? If indeed such a man does exist, and if his family members were attending the House of Prayer Achill, all they would be doing is praying the Rosary. It is again purely aimed at creating animosity towards Christina Gallagher. From February 10th 2008 An article gives details of items in Mrs Gallagher’s home. Again, no source for such outlandish claims is given. It is amazing to think an article is based around the so called contents of somebody’s bedroom. Apart from being grossly exaggerated, it is appalling that anybody would stoop to the level of describing the contents of somebody’s bedroom. Where are the rules against invasion of privacy? What a pathetic attempt to cause sensation. Extract from October 26th 2008 “telling her few hardcore followers ..” “.. (Christina).. that the BMW was a present from a devotee” The followers of Our Lady Queen of Peace are certainly not “hardcore followers” of anybody. Indeed Christina Gallagher has never put herself forward as a leader, always saying of herself she is nothing and is only giving what she has been told by Our Lady. Christina Gallagher never made a statement about any BMW having been given as a gift from a devotee. This tabloid’s campaign has consistently been based on falsehoods, lies, distorted facts and half truths, and like so many other articles, this too is total lies. Extract from November 23rd 2008 "fake visionary Christina Gallagher is telling supporters that she will be assumed into heaven in the next six months, the Virgin Mary is going to spare her further pain by raising her to Heaven, body and soul, the same way She was assumed into heaven. The astonishing claims were made to supporters at her regular Saturday afternoon prayer sessions at the House of Prayer. She has also been telling her closest aides that she will not be around for much longer.” There are approximately four hundred people every Saturday at the novena prayers and all can testify that never was any such statement made by Christina Gallagher or anybody on her behalf. Furthermore, at Our Lady Queen of Peace House of Prayer Achill never are the prayer services sensational. The routine prayers never change from the Rosary, Stations of the Cross and devotional prayers to the Holy Trinity. This is a totally unfounded falsity and it seems it is done purely to create ridicule and to publicly damage Christina Gallagher’s credibility. Extract from November 23rd 2008 “Opponents claimed last night that the disgraced visionary could be preparing to flee Ireland” Firstly, Christina Gallagher is not disgraced, rather she has been scandalously defamed and libelled. She has, over the years, done only what was requested of her by Our Lady. Those who have met her know that the allegations are false and hugely insulting, but through it all, Christina Gallagher has never faltered in standing by the message of Our Lady Queen of Peace. She has continued in her work, attending the prayers and leading the Rosary at the House of Prayer Achill. This false and unfounded statement again has no basis. Christina Gallagher has no reason to and no intention of leaving Ireland as time and events will verify, as she and those who with her have done nothing wrong. Christina Gallagher will travel where, when and as the work of Our Lady’s mission requires. Extract from November 23rd 2008 “I think a lot of people who follow Gallagher are ‘touched’ ” This insulting alleged statement directed at people who travel to pray at Our Lady’s house is slanderous towards all the pilgrims. The pilgrims at Our Lady’s House of Prayer Achill are respectable people, ranging in age from young children to teenagers to young adults to mature adults to elderly. Pilgrims come from allsorts of professions and certainly don’t see themselves as “touched”. Surely, if people are labelled as ‘touched’ from praying the Rosary, then people all over the world must also be ‘touched’! The same tabloid recently carried a story about a charitable organisation that had a fundraising event called “Bra Patrick” where hundreds of people climbed Croagh Patrick carrying a train of women’s underwear. One would wonder if these people were “touched” or is it acceptable that the holy Irish mountain that people of faith have climbed for centuries to honour our Patron Saint is ridiculed and made fun off. This certainly would not be accepted in other countries. If a person went to a country of Muslim faith, they would have no choice but to respect the faith of the people there. Why does the same principle not exist in Ireland any longer? This comment by the tabloid is another example of its agenda to discredit and damage Christina Gallagher’s mission. Extract from December 4th 2008 “I see it as a cult” “I just want the House of Prayer exposed for what it is” “if you ever disputed this, you were accused of being an enemy of Our Lady” “it’s the only room in the home with heating, after giving more than E100,000 to Christina Gallagher” “Looking back now, I can tell you, I think we were brainwashed, we fell for the mysticism, we fell for the alleged messages, everything and every time money was needed, we were there like fools.” This was one of the most painful articles for Catholics all over Ireland, as this is supposed to be a Catholic tabloid-style paper. They covered this story, the very same story a national paper with no Christian values published months before. The person involved is not using her real name. She calls herself ‘Mary’. In the article she claims she has received her money back and yet they still only have one room with heating. “Mary” who refers to herself as a fool should look back and recall the situations she refers to in a factual manner. One continues to wonder how praying the Rosary can brainwash somebody. If that be the case, all our ancestors in Ireland must too have been ‘brainwashed’. She also indicates that when money was needed, she was there, and that would imply that anything she may have given was given freely. Extract from March 9th 2008 “Christina promised that Our Lady would give a supernatural sign on April 26th at the House of Prayer” Christina Gallagher never made any such promise that Our Lady would give a supernatural sign at Our Lady’s House on April 26th. The author either has very unreliable sources or a vivid imagination. However, it is not excusable and this continuing vendetta of mistruths presented as facts are aimed at damaging and discrediting. Extract from March 16th 2008 -“we can reveal that before she received her first vision of Our Lady 20 years ago, Gallagher made money off the gullible by telling fortunes. She was into reading palms and tea leafs and all that kind of stuff said one local from Knockmore, where Gallagher was born.” This is a dreadful allegation from another unidentified ‘source’. Surely, if people were making sincere truthful statements they would be prepared to put their names to it? Christina Gallagher is not and was not a fortune teller and never made money from any such activity. Sadly, the tabloid press, having no regard for facts and truth, presents this type of rubbish to the gullible.
